Edipov kompleks
Oedipus complex
IPA: / oˈdiːpəs ˈkɑːmpleks /A complex of males; desire to possess the mother sexually and to exclude the father; said to be a source of personality disorders if unresolved; Also called: Oedipal complex.
In psychology, the unconscious antagonism of a son to his father, whom he sees as a rival for his mothers affection. For a girl antagonistic to her mother, as a rival for her fathers affection, the term is Electra complex. The terms were coined by Sigmund Freud.
Freud saw this as a universal part of childhood development, which in most children is resolved during late childhood. Contemporary theory places less importance on the Oedipus/Electra complex than did Freud and his followers.
